A 9-section printable guide that walks incoming college students through the practical, unglamorous stuff — roommates, budgets, homesickness, and knowing who to ask when something goes wrong — before and after they leave for campus.

Getting into college is the finish line of high school. Thriving in the first semester is a different challenge entirely, and it’s one nobody hands you a syllabus for. This guide walks students (and the parents helping them prepare) through the real logistics and emotional realities of the transition, from the roommate conversation you should have before move-in to the week-six check-in that catches problems before they become crises.

What’s Inside

Dorm and roommate compatibility questions to ask before move-in
A packing checklist that fits a dorm room without overpacking
A first-semester budget worksheet for food, laundry, and going-out money
A framework for building a realistic weekly schedule (college hours look emptier than high school — that’s the trap)
A “find your people and resources” checklist for week one on campus
Guidance on talking to professors and using office hours
A section on homesickness and loneliness, with what actually helps
A step-by-step plan for when a class is going badly
A week-six check-in page to catch problems early
A short note for parents on staying supportive without hovering
